NCAA College Basketball: Top 5 Incoming Freshman

I am the newest blogger here, Eazy E—not the rapper, but the sports aficionado.  I want to take time here to look at a few incoming freshman that are going to make a big impact in college basketball next year.  While the main emphasis of this blog is football, basketball will be something that will be the emphasis of my blogs.  Anyways, here is a list of the top 5 impact freshman coming into the college scene next year…

“It’s not like they’re The University of Jesus Christ and we’re playing the twelve disciples, It’s just Duke. Duke is just a name on a jersey.”

1.     Austin Rivers—6’3 Shooting Guard, Winter Park, FL--DUKE
Yes, this is Jeremiah’s brother—the Hoosier who is unable to shoot the basketball and is more turnover prone than any walk-on in America.  However, Austin will have an unquestioned impact at Duke even though nobody likes Duke and Coach K.  I hate to rate him number 1, but his skills are unmatched and he is NBA bound.  Although his skills are where they need to be, here at FST we rate him a **.75 out of 3 on our scale of skill assessment.

2.     Cody Zeller—6’11 Power Forward, Washington, IN—INDIANA
Cody will have an immediate impact for the Hoosiers who have been lacking a skilled big man down low.  He has the uncanny ability to shoot the ball and is strong on the offensive end.  Although he lacks some strength, he will be an immediate impact freshman in the country’s strongest conference, the Big Ten (12?).  FST ranking **.5, his ranking is lower than usual, but his skills are where they need to be and he will be a solid 4 year player for Tommy Crean and the Hoosiers.

3.     Anthony Davis, 6’10 Power Forward, Chicago, IL—KENTUCKY
As much as I hate Kentucky, Anthony Davis is prime to have an immediate impact in the SEC.  The Cats will lose Enes Kanter (who couldn’t play because both he and Calipari are liars) and will need an immediate impact with his presence on the boards and in the post.  His skills, coupled with incoming Freshman Marquis Teague (Jeff Teague’s highly overrated brother) will allow for him to become a presence in the paint and dominate the weak nature of the SEC. FST ranking ***

4.     Mike Gilchrist 6’6 Wing, Elizabeth, NJ—KENTUCKY
Yet another impact freshman for that scum Calipari.  Gilchrist is a slasher and will get make an immediate impact with the post presence of Davis.  While he has been dropping in the rankings, I see him coming out with a vengeance next year and having a similar impact as Harrison Barnes this year (even though Barnes sucked it up against Minny, he’s still a stud) .  FST ranking ***

5.     Adonis Thomas, Wing, Memphis, TN—MEMPHIS
He should make an immediate impact in the NCAA.  He is set to play for Memphis who plays an easy conference schedule and will be paired with FST *** star rated Joe Jackson PG at Memphis (pending he doesn’t leave).  This wing will provide another slasher in the NCAA ranks that can get to the basket easily and has a solid mid-range game, look for him to have an immediate impact on the weak nature of conference USA.

Other Notable incoming freshman, B.J. Young—Arkansas, Quinn Cook—Duke, Brandon Dawson—MSU, Wayne Blackshear—Louisville

While these are the top incoming frosh next year, Tommy Crean has locked down the soon to be dubbed no. 1 recruiting class of 2012 featuring Hanner Perea, Buss Patterson and Peter Jurkin.  Look for FST-*** star Yogi Ferrell to commit soon.  In addition, Crean has locked down 2 top 25 2014 players in 6’9 Trey Lyles and James Blackmon Jr.  It’s all about IU.

Check out Hanner yamming the ball, he’ll be doing this in B-town for 2 years before he’s in the league.
